Job Description

American Traveler is hiring a night shift RN for a Surgical Acute Medical-Surgical position in Illinois, requiring recent post-op care experience and an active IL RN license.

Responsibilities

• Work in a 63-bed Surgical Acute Medical-Surgical unit within an acute care setting
• Patient population includes post-op surgical, trauma, and medical overflow cases
• Nurse-to-patient ratios of 4-5:1 on days and 5-6:1 on nights
• Night shifts are 12 hours (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM) with rotating weekends and holidays
• Travelers are first to float to similar units based on experience
• Some patients may require telemetry monitoring with Phillips monitors, monitor techs available
• Uses Epic EMR system
• CPAP and high flow respiratory support used; RNs manage inhalers and place patients on CPAP
• Will participate in a two-shift department-specific orientation with preceptor, plus one shift for Epic and professional orientation
• Charge RNs and house supervisor available on every shift, charge RNs do not take patient assignments
• Patient care techs assist with ADLs, vital signs, and other support tasks
• No titratable drips except set rate Heparin; RNs do not titrate other drips
• Scrubs of any color are permitted
• Travelers cannot self-schedule and must have block scheduling approved at contract time
• Every other weekend and rotating holiday coverage is required
• No call or standby requirement for this position
• There is no radius rule; local rates apply for candidates living within 50 miles

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required at time of consideration
• At least 1 year of recent medical-surgical or surgical acute experience
• Current BLS certification (AHA)
• Must have post-op care skills and strong critical thinking abilities
• Experience with Epic charting system preferred
• Ability to perform wound care, dressing changes, IV therapy, pain management, and manage drains, NGs, central lines, and TPN
• Must submit with all required documents and certifications active at the time of application
