Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) travel contract, requiring at least 2 years of recent cardiac floor experience and an active NC or compact RN license.

Responsibilities

  • Work in the PCU of a hospital with primarily cardiac and stepdown patient populations
  • Typical diagnoses include atrial fibrillation, CHF, ACS, CAD, valve disorders, endocarditis, and various cardiothoracic and vascular post-surgical cases
  • Patient ratios are 1:4 for surgical stepdown and 1:5-6 for lower acuity
  • Specialized procedures include cardiac surgeries (CABG, AVR, MVR, TAVR), Watchman procedures, thoracic surgeries, pacemaker placements, and vascular surgeries
  • Uses Epic for documentation and Pyxis for medication management
  • Night shifts only (3x12 hrs), every 4 weeks requires 4 weekend shifts (flexible)
  • Floating may be required based on hospital rotation and census, but travelers are not first to float
  • Unit orientation consists of 24 hours
  • Navy scrubs required
  • Will be part of Storm/Hurricane Team and may be required to work during catastrophic events or disasters
  • May be consolidated to a Centralized Office during contract or preassigned to units as needed
  • Must be comfortable floating to other units or affiliate hospitals as needed
  • Candidates cannot take RTO during the first week of assignment; RTO requests over 7 days require facility approval
  • Must work at least 2 out of 3 major holidays
  • No RTO allowed after booking; excessive call offs may result in cancellation
  • All candidates will be interviewed prior to offer
  • Fatigue policy limits working more than 5 consecutive days or 60 hours per week
  • Travel pairs are accepted if working on different units

Requirements

  • Active NC or compact RN license in hand by start date (pending at submission is acceptable)
  • Minimum 2 years of recent cardiac floor experience required
  • Previous traveler experience required unless more than 24 months of cardiac experience
  • Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
  • Must pass EKG testing prior to start
  • Experience with cardiac telemetry, sheath removal, dysrhythmia management, pre/post cardiac cath, managing cardiac drips, and non-invasive airway management required
  • Experience with Epic charting preferred
  • References (manager/supervisor) from the past 12 months required by start
  • Candidates who were staff or PRN at the facility must wait 12 months before eligibility as a traveler; travel Per Diem clinicians not eligible for travel assignment
  • Must be able to complete required online/in-person modules prior to start
