Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN to join the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) in a Level 2 Trauma Center, requiring a WI or compact RN license and strong critical care skills.

Responsibilities

• Work in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) of an acute care hospital
• 16-bed unit with 2 additional procedural beds
• Patient population includes cardiovascular surgery, trauma, vascular, neuro, general, ortho, and ENT surgical ICU cases
• Nurse-to-patient ratios are typically 1:2, 1:1 for high acuity patients, and 1:3 for med/surg overflow
• RNs are responsible for titrating drips including epi, norepi, propofol, precedex, vaso, dobutamine, heparin, insulin, dopamine, neo, and milrinone
• Staff required to self-monitor and document patient rhythm strips using GE monitors
• Cerner EMR used (transitioning to Epic)
• Shifts are 12 hours with rotating days and nights; scheduling preferences discussed during interview
• Every other weekend and holiday required
• Possible floating to MICU or to hospital-wide patient observer roles
• Hospitalist/Intensivist and RT present in ICU 24/7
• Must complete system onboarding, CBTs, and a unit-specific orientation including a skills checklist
• Charge nurse present on all shifts with house supervisor support 24/7
• Clean and professional attire required; no specific scrub color mandated
• Must clock in and out for all shifts
• Former permanent staff not eligible unless their employment ended at least 6 months prior and with hospital approval
• Local candidates within 80 miles of the facility are considered local and are subject to a reduced rate
• Holiday and RTO requests accommodated based on unit needs

Requirements

• Active WI or compact RN license is required by the start date
• Minimum of 2 years recent SICU or critical care RN experience
• Current AHA ACLS and BLS certifications required
• Preferred certifications: TNCC and NIHSS
• Must have proven skills with high acuity surgical ICU patient population
• Experience with CRRT, IABP, Impella, or ECMO is not required but beneficial
• Ability to titrate drips and manage complex cardiac and surgical critical care patients
• Experience with Cerner EMR preferred
• Two professional references required: one from a supervisor and one from a peer or supervisor
