Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a night-shift ICU position requiring strong neuro expertise, NIHSS certification, and Kentucky or compact RN licensure.

Responsibilities

• Work in the ICU at a hospital setting
• Night shift schedule with 3x12 hour shifts, 19:00–07:00
• Expectation to work 3–4 weekend night shifts per month (Friday or Saturday)
• Patient ratios typically 1:1–2+
• Neuro-focused patient population, including post-thoracic, post-craniotomy, and neurosurgical cases
• Travelers may be required to float to different units
• Airway management, mechanical ventilation, artline management, central line care, and IV drip titration involved
• Utilizes the Epic EMR system
• Responsibilities include advanced airway, hemodynamic monitoring, and neuro assessments
• Must manage patients post-neurosurgery, vascular procedures, and with multiple organ failure
• Annual and specialty-specific modules are required and completed during orientation
• Backgrounds with explanation may be considered
• Return staff must wait two years before reapplying as a traveler
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply

Requirements

• Active RN license in Kentucky or compact state required
• BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certifications required
• Minimum 1.5 years of recent ICU experience with strong neuro background
• Previous travel nurse experience required
• Experience with management of ventilated patients, dysrhythmias, and multisystem organ dysfunction
• Ability to interpret ABGs and manage continuous IV sedation and vasopressors
• Must live more than 75 miles from the facility to qualify for traveler status
• Two professional references required for consideration
