Job Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Neuro Med/Surg Tele position in Illinois, requiring an active IL RN license and strong neuro experience.

Responsibilities

• Work in a 22-bed Neuro Med/Surg/Tele unit within a hospital setting
• Patient population includes neuro and neuro-surgical patients such as CVAs, elective back and neck surgeries, and cerebral angiograms, as well as general medical overflow patients
• Patient ratio is typically 1:4
• Use of Epic EMR is required
• 12-hour night shifts with every other weekend and holiday required
• May float to the medical unit as needed
• No on-call or call-back responsibilities
• Perform advanced neuro assessments, basic telemetry interpretation, and dysphagia screening
• Manage strict input and output, straight catheterization, Foley catheter management, initiate and titrate heparin drips, administer blood and blood products, perform venipuncture, and draw blood cultures
• Manage NG tubes, indwelling drains, and stable IV drips
• Charge nurse will also have a patient assignment
• Navy blue scrubs required
• No local candidates accepted (must live more than 40 miles from the facility)
• COVID-19 vaccine is not currently required but subject to change

Requirements

• Active Illinois RN license required
• Current AHA BLS, AHA ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum two years of strong Med/Surg Tele experience required
• At least one previous travel assignment required
• Recent experience working with the Epic EMR system required
• Previous neuro experience required, including strong neuro assessment skills and comfort with NIHSS and dysphagia screening
