Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an ICU position in a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital, requiring a GA or Compact RN license and strong critical care skills.
Responsibilities
- Work in multiple ICU settings including MICU, CCU, CVICU, NICU, PCU, and STICU within a large hospital
- Float to all ICU and Med/Tele units as needed in a float pool capacity
- Diverse patient population including medical, surgical trauma, neuro, and cardiovascular critical care
- Typical ICU nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:1 to 1:2; PCU nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:3-4
- 12-hour day shifts from 7AM to 7PM, with a rotating 6-week schedule
- Required to work 5-6 weekend shifts in a 6-week schedule
- Must work at least one major winter holiday including 12/24 or 12/25 and 12/31 or 1/1
- Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and Phillips monitors
- First-time travelers are welcome for consideration
- Team-oriented environment with robust support including CNAs, unit secretaries, charge nurse, PICC team, respiratory therapists, and 24/7 intensivist and hospitalist coverage
- RN responsible for drawing blood from central lines as there is no dedicated IV team
- Central telemetry unit in place, RNs may need to sign off on telemetry strips
- Scrub color for RNs is navy
- Busy, collaborative unit culture focused on high-quality patient care
- Comprehensive orientation provided including facility, educational modules, and departmental orientation
- Free parking available on campus
Requirements
- Active GA or Compact RN license required
- Minimum 2 years of ICU RN experience required
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- CCRN certification preferred
- Ability to pass EKG competency exam during onboarding
- Proficiency with trach care, chest tube management, starting PIVs, use of glucometer, and titration of common critical care drips
- Epic EMR experience preferred
