Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an ICU position at a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital requiring GA or compact RN licensure and ICU competency.
Responsibilities
- Work in a hospital setting across multiple ICU units including CCU, MICU, NICU, PCU, CVICU, and STICU
- Level 1 Trauma Center and teaching hospital environment
- 12-hour night shifts from 7P to 7A
- Weekend rotation includes 6 shifts in a 6-week schedule or every other weekend
- Holiday coverage required for either 12/24 or 12/25 and 12/31 or 1/1
- Will float to all ICU units at the main campus and to Med/Tele units as needed
- Patient ratios: ICU 1:1-2, PCU 1:3-4
- Uses EPIC EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis med dispensing, and Phillips monitors
- No on-call or call back requirements
- Responsibilities include managing critically ill patients across multiple ICU specialty areas
- Support staff includes CNA, Unit Secretary, Charge Nurse, PICC team, Resource Nurses, 24/7 RT, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage
- Central telemetry unit available, RNs may be required to sign off on strips
- Phlebotomy generally performed by RNs for CVLs
- Navy scrubs are required for RNs
- Unit has a busy, team-oriented culture
- Orientation includes one day for modules and two days of departmental training
- RTO requests must be submitted to and approved by the manager
- Free parking available around campus
Requirements
- Active GA or Compact RN license in hand
- Minimum of 2 years of recent ICU RN experience required
- BLS and ACLS certifications required
- CCRN certification preferred
- Must pass an EKG competency exam during onboarding
- Proficiency with trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, glucometer use, and titration of common drips such as vasopressors, insulin, heparin, and sedation agents
- Experience with EPIC EMR required
- First-time travelers will be considered
