Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position in a regional float pool with advanced stroke care and a NC or compact RN license required.

Responsibilities

• Hospital-based Med/Surg Tele unit caring for adult patients
• 27-bed unit with an average daily census of 20 patients
• Patient ratio is typically 1 RN to 5 patients
• Common diagnoses include stroke, COPD, chest pain, altered mental status, and GI bleed
• Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Philips monitors
• Day shifts from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM with every other weekend required
• No call or call-back requirements
• Floating required to multiple facilities within the designated region and within scope of practice
• Holiday coverage required for 75% of major holidays
• Responsibilities include comprehensive patient assessments, monitoring cardiac rhythms, and care for patients with neurological and cardiac conditions
• Support includes CNAs, 24/7 phlebotomy, respiratory therapy, hospitalist coverage, and telemetry techs
• Charge nurse present with variable assignment, plus daytime HUC/receptionist support
• First-time travelers are considered but not preferred
• Initial orientation includes hospital onboarding plus two departmental training days
• Six days of approved time off allowed, excluding holidays, with extensions required for missed contracted hours
• Team-oriented unit culture focused on collaboration and support
• Navy blue scrubs required
• Free parking available on site
• Travelers will remain on the clock if floating between regional facilities mid-shift

Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license
• BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum of 18 months recent Med/Surg Tele experience required
• Strong Med/Surg Tele skillset including stroke care/NIH assessments, cardiac rhythm interpretation, and experience with a variety of drains and tubes
• Medication drip management including cardiac drips, heparin, and blood products
• Epic EMR experience preferred
• Must live at least 50 miles from the assigned home unit to qualify as a traveler
