Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg-Ortho night shift position requiring an active NE or compact license and strong clinical documentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Work in a 32-bed acute care Med/Surg-Orthopedics unit
• Patient population includes post-op cancer intervention cases such as prostatectomy and mastectomy
• Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5
• Night shifts are 12 hours, three shifts per week
• Weekend requirement is every third weekend
• Rotating holiday coverage required
• Uses Epic EMR
• Central telemetry monitoring with RNs expected to interpret strips and respond to changes
• Titration of drips such as heparin, lidocaine, and TPN is required
• Floating is rare but may occur to other medical/surgical units
• No on-call requirement
• Dress code is navy scrubs
• Primary duties include providing nursing care to medical and surgical patients with a focus on orthopedic and oncology post-operative cases
• Occasionally works with nurse aides depending on sitter needs
• Dedicated charge nurse and supervisors available on the unit
• Artificial nails are prohibited for patient care and refusal to remove them will result in contract termination
• Unit-specific orientation is provided
• First-day pass/fail skills exam is required as part of orientation
• Two professional references required: one from a supervisor within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years
• Returning staff must not have held a direct position with CommonSpirit/CHI within the last year

Requirements

• Active NE or compact RN license required
• At least 1 year of recent relevant RN experience
• Current BLS (AHA) certification required
• Strong communication, accurate documentation, timeliness, and patient-centered care skills are essential
• Ability to titrate IV drips and monitor telemetry required
• Epic EMR experience preferred
• Must pass a skills exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90%
• Driver’s license required for radius verification (must live more than 50 miles from facility)
• Candidates cannot be full time, part time, or PRN employees of any CommonSpirit facility within the past year
