Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele assignment requiring surgical unit experience and advanced cardiac certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Work in an adult Med/Surg Tele unit within a hospital setting
  • Unit cares for surgical patients and surgical stepdown with wide-ranging diagnoses including post-op and trauma cases
  • Patient ratio is typically 1:6 for surgical and medicine inpatients
  • Night shifts are 12 hours, with a schedule of three shifts per week (18:45–07:15)
  • Every other weekend is required
  • Floating to similar units or affiliate hospitals may be required based on census and skills
  • Assigned to Storm Team or Hurricane Team with expectation to report during severe events
  • Wide range of inpatient surgical procedures performed, including cholecystectomy, appendectomy, hernia repair, and more
  • Uses wound vacs, chest tubes, NG/corpak tubes, multiple types of surgical drains
  • EPIC used for documentation
  • 13 to 26 week contracts available, with option for 36 or 48-hour workweeks
  • Responsibilities include interpreting cardiac rhythms, responding to rapid response situations, managing surgical wounds, and providing specialized surgical and medical care
  • Two days of hospital orientation and 24 hours of floor training provided
  • Navy scrubs or navy bottoms with white tops required
  • No RTO allowed in the first week; maximum of 7 days RTO approved if not on major holidays
  • Must work at least two out of three major holidays during the contract
  • Travel pairs allowed but must be assigned to different units
  • Fatigue policy prohibits working more than five days in a row or more than 60 hours per week
  • Modules must be completed pre-start and annually as assigned
  • Candidates with prior permanent or per diem staff employment at the health system must have a 12-month gap before being considered

Requirements

  • Active NC or Compact RN license required in hand by start date
  • Minimum 2 years recent surgical unit experience required
  • Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
  • Must have skills in dysrhythmia interpretation and management, rapid response, blood product administration, central and peripheral line care, surgical drains, airway management, isolation precautions, and wound care
  • Experience with Epic EMR required
  • Must pass EKG testing prior to start
  • References from supervisors within the past 12 months required at start
  • Travel experience preferred but not required
