Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Stepdown Telemetry position requiring proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation and current IN or compact RN licensure.
Responsibilities
- Work in a hospital stepdown unit specializing in intermediate MS/cardiac care
- Patient ratios are 1:4 with a focus on cardiac, stroke, and some renal patients
- All beds able to accommodate hemodialysis, performed by an external company
- Floats required to similar or lower acuity units within the hospital or nearby affiliates as needed
- Night shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts from 19:00 to 07:30
- Weekend shifts required every other weekend
- No on-call requirements
- Uses Cerner EMR system
- Expected to provide specialized care to patients requiring cardiac monitoring and intermediate care
- Will encounter a patient population with complex cardiac and some renal needs
- First-time travelers are accepted for this assignment
- Return travelers must have a 3-year gap away from the facility before reapplying
- Pre-assignment completion of up to 8 hours of required modules is necessary
- Must wear royal blue or white scrubs as part of the dress code
- Holiday coverage required for at least one holiday if requesting time off during the holiday period
- Professional conduct and attendance policies are strictly enforced
Requirements
- Active IN or compact state RN license required; pending licenses accepted if active by start date
- Minimum 1 year of recent stepdown/telemetry experience required; 2 years preferred
- Certifications required: ACLS, BLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Must have experience with telemetry, cardiac, and stroke patient care
- Experience with cardiac drips such as Heparin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, and Lasix
- Proficiency in reading, identifying, and appropriately reacting to cardiac rhythms is mandatory
- Cerner EMR experience required
- Must pass a telemetry rhythm identification quiz before assignment
- Must live more than 50 miles from the facility; locals not accepted
