Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an ICU position requiring a MO or compact RN license and advanced critical care skills.
Responsibilities
- Position is in the ICU at a short-term acute care, Magnet-designated, Level I Trauma, teaching hospital
- Assignments offered for 13 or 26 weeks with either 36 or 48 hours per week
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:2
- Patient population includes respiratory failure/ARDS, acute chest pain, arrhythmias, stroke, cardiac arrest, DKA, multi-organ failure, sepsis, pre- and post-op cardiac/thoracic/abdominal surgeries, medicine and neuro overflow, pre- and post-transplant, and end-of-life/organ donation cases
- Work schedule is day shift (4x12 hours, 7:00 to 19:30) with every other weekend required
- No on-call responsibilities
- Floating required within ICU service line and possibly to affiliate hospitals
- Uses Epic EMR system; Epic experience required
- Specialized equipment includes IV pumps/titration, CRRT/dialysis, ventilators/BIPAP, hemodynamic/invasive monitors, defibrillator/crash cart
- Duties include caring for a diverse and high-acuity patient population including those requiring advanced life support and multi-organ system care
- Team support provided in a large teaching hospital environment
- Navy scrubs required
- Every other weekend and holiday coverage are required per unit policy
- No more than 7 days of requested time off (RTO) allowed per 13-week contract; no RTO during the first week of assignment
- Permanent employees must wait at least 1 year before returning as a traveler
- Travelers may remain for up to 18 months; a 3-month break is required after 18 months of continuous assignment
- Fit testing required; proper facial hair for mask fit will be enforced
- Pre-employment modules must be completed prior to start
- Parking passes are available through hospital security
Requirements
- Active MO or compact RN license required; license must be in hand by start date
- Minimum of 2 years of recent ICU experience
- Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NIH Stroke Scale
- Must have experience with interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, 12 lead EKGs, management of multisystem organ dysfunction, CVP and Swan Ganz monitoring, management of acute/chronic renal failure, arterial line and blood product administration, central and PICC line care
- Skills required in ventilator management, BiPAP, ABG interpretation, IV sedation, cardiac and vasoactive drip titration, stroke management, respiratory failure care, wound management, and infection prevention
- Experience with Epic charting system is required
- No first-time travelers will be considered
- Candidates must reside at least 75 miles from the facility
