Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position requiring at least 2 years of L&D experience and compact or AZ RN licensure.
Responsibilities
- Position is in an acute care hospital Labor & Delivery unit
- Unit includes 10 L&D beds; travelers do not cover OB Triage
- Patient ratios are 1:1 for active delivery and 1:2 for regular labor
- Duties include circulating for c-sections (no scrubbing), with follow-through to OR and PACU
- Very little cardiac monitoring is performed in this unit
- Expect frequent floating between Labor & Delivery, Mother Baby, and Postpartum units, as well as between two hospital locations in the area
- Electronic charting is completed using Cerner EMR
- 12-hour night shifts (7:00pm – 7:30am), with shifts on every other to every third weekend
- Anesthesia, pharmacy, and respiratory therapy are available 24/7
- Floor-specific orientation consists of three shifts
- The unit supports approximately 300-325 births per month, with diverse patient populations including those using epidural anesthesia and deliveries attended by both physicians and midwives
- No nurse aides assigned, but certified surgical technologists assist with OR cases
- Specialty equipment and procedures include care for patients receiving magnesium for preeclampsia and use of perinatal safety checklists
- First day Sim Lab and safety exam are pass/fail; failure to pass mandatory testing may result in termination of assignment
- Scrubs are provided
- Holiday schedules will be incorporated into the regular staff rotation
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility, determined by the address on the driver’s license
- Frequent local travel between two hospital sites is required; candidates must be comfortable with floating
Requirements
- Active AZ or compact RN license required at the time of application
- Minimum of 2 years recent Labor & Delivery experience
- Current certifications in BLS, ACLS, NRP, and AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring are required
- Experience with circulating for c-sections is necessary
- Must be familiar with perinatal safety checklists and care for patients with preeclampsia, postpartum hemorrhage, and magnesium therapy
- Pass a required Prophecy Dysrhythmia Exam prior to acceptance (maximum 2 attempts)
- Successful completion of a sterile skills Sim Lab and assessment on Day 1 of orientation is mandatory
- Copy of valid driver’s license is required for consideration
- Two recent professional references required: one supervisor from the last 12 months, and one peer or supervisor from the last 3 years, verifying dates of employment and rehire eligibility
- Candidates may not have been directly employed by CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity in the past year
