Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiovascular ICU position requiring Level I trauma experience and strong critical care skills.
Responsibilities
- Work in a 24-bed Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) within an acute care hospital
- Patient population includes cardiac surgery recovery, transplant, CRRT, IABP, ECMO, thoracic and high acuity cardiovascular cases
- Nurse-to-patient ratios are typically 1:1 or 1:2 depending on acuity
- 12-hour night shifts with a requirement to work 3 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule
- Holiday shifts are assigned according to the unit’s rotation
- Cerner is used for electronic medical records
- Floating is required to other ICUs, telemetry units (4:1 ratio), and may include floating to additional campuses
- Use of specialized equipment including IABP, CRRT, ECMO, Swans, and Phillips telemetry
- Perform bedside procedures, such as bronchs and central line care, in a high acuity environment
- Day 1 orientation includes testing on sterile technique—maintenance of sterile field is critical
- Team includes charge nurse without assignment, two patient care technicians per shift with high census, intensivist days/on-call nights, and 24/7 RT and pharmacy support
- Navy scrubs are required for all shifts
- Returning candidates must not have been directly employed by CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity within the past year
- Must have natural hair color and no facial piercings; men must be clean shaven for fit testing
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
- First-time travelers will be considered
Requirements
- Active AZ or compact RN license required at the time of consideration
- Minimum of 2 years recent ICU experience; CVICU experience highly preferred
- Level I trauma experience required
- Current ACLS and BLS certifications required; CCRN preferred
- Must pass a dysrhythmia exam prior to acceptance with two attempts allowed
- Must successfully complete a pass/fail SIMs lab on sterile technique for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes on day 1 of orientation
- Strong IV skills are required due to no designated IV team
- Driver’s license required to verify residence outside the 50-mile radius
- Professional references: one supervisor reference from the past 12 months and one reference (peer or supervisor) from the past 3 years
