Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro ICU position requiring Level 1 trauma and EVD experience.
Responsibilities
- Position is in the Neuro ICU of an acute care hospital
- 32 bed Neuro ICU with a 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio
- Critical care patient population with neurological diagnoses, including post-craniotomy, brain tumor removals, ablations, brain biopsies, and complex spine surgeries
- Level 1 trauma center with advanced neurosurgical procedures
- 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 pm to 7:00 am
- Required to work 4 weekend shifts in a 4-week schedule and rotate holidays with core staff
- Potential floating to other ICU and Telemetry units, with 4:1 ratios on Tele
- EMR system is Cerner; telemetry uses Phillips monitors
- Ventilator support available; Respiratory Therapy and Pharmacy are available 24/7
- Orientation includes floor orientation, SIMs Lab for skill validation, and a pass/fail exam on Day 1
- Responsibilities include managing critically ill neuro patients and participating in regular SIMs Lab skill validation
- Team includes charge nurses who do not take patients, with 24/7 support from respiratory therapy and pharmacy
- SIMs Lab covers Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes with strict pass/fail criteria
- Must maintain sterile technique; failure of initial skill validation will result in non-assignment for 6 months
- Scrub color for Neuro ICU is steel grey; any non-offensive color/print may be worn on other floors
- All travelers are expected to have natural hair color and no facial piercings; men must be clean-shaven for fit testing
- Returning employees cannot have worked at any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility in the last year except as PRN through outside agencies
- First to float among travelers; must secure own vehicle for travel between units as needed
Requirements
- Active AZ or Compact RN license required at time of consideration
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years recent ICU experience in a large (450+ bed), Level 1 trauma facility
- Travel nursing experience of 3–6 months preferred
- Experience with external ventricular drains (EVD) and intracranial pressure monitoring required
- Strong neuro assessment skills needed
- Must pass Dysrhythmia (DYS) exam and sterile technique validation prior to or on Day 1 of orientation
- References including one supervisor within the last 12 months and a peer or supervisor within the last 3 years
- Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility as verified by driver's license
- Copy of driver’s license required for consideration
