Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit night shift role requiring a NE or compact license and at least 2 years of stepdown experience.

Responsibilities

• Position in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) within an acute care hospital
• Stepdown setting caring for adult and geriatric populations
• Typical patient conditions include cardiac, nephrology, stroke, diabetes, and continuous EEG monitoring
• Unit capacity is 35 beds with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:4-5
• RNs are required to titrate drips such as Cardizem, beta blockers, and seizure medications
• Charting is done using Epic EMR; prior Epic experience is preferred but not required
• 12-hour night shifts (1830-0700)
• Every other weekend and every third holiday required
• No on-call requirement
• Floating may occur to medical floors, ICU, or rehab
• Unit has charge nurses and is supported by nurse aides or patient care technicians
• Orientation consists of onboarding during the first week and 1-2 days of unit-specific training
• A positive attitude, critical thinking, and strong communication and problem-solving skills are highly valued
• Artificial fingernails are not permitted in patient care areas
• Up to 7 days of requested time off (RTO) per 13-week contract may be approved if requested up front; no additional RTO is approved
• Must live at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply

Requirements

• Active NE or compact RN license required; pending licenses not accepted
• Minimum of 2 years of recent stepdown or PCU experience
• Certifications required: ACLS, BLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• Driver’s license required for consideration to verify 50-mile radius eligibility
• Candidates may not be currently or recently (past 12 months) employed (full time, part time, or PRN) with any CommonSpirit facility, including CHI or Dignity
• References: one supervisor from the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from the last 3 years required
• Pass an open book skills exam with 90% or higher during orientation
