Job Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry night shift position requiring West Virginia or compact licensure and travel nursing experience.

Responsibilities

• Work in a 32-bed Med/Surg Telemetry unit within an acute care hospital setting
• Care for adult and geriatric post-operative, surgical, orthopedic, urology, and medical patients
• Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:6
• Shifts are 12 hours, 7p-7a, with 36 hours per week and rotating weekends and holidays
• Required to float to medical/surgical units or to patients boarded in the Emergency Department as needed
• Use EPIC EMR system
• Remote telemetry monitoring is managed by monitor techs 24/7
• CPAP, BiPAP, IV pumps, pulse oximetry, and sequential compression devices are used in the unit
• May be asked to step into a charge nurse role and will be cross-trained if interested
• Support team includes charge nurse, house supervisor, and nurse aides with a 1:10 aide-to-patient ratio
• Solid, unembroidered navy scrubs are required for RNs/LPNs; only specified fleece and undershirt colors are permitted
• Initial orientation includes general hospital and nursing-specific training, computer training, and two 12-hour precepted shifts
• Holiday assignment is rotated with core staff, with preference given based on previous year’s schedule
• First day includes general orientation, with skills checklist due within 90 days of start
• No local travelers accepted per 50-mile radius rule for this facility
• Previous WVU Medicine employees must have a 2-year gap after ending employment before reapplying as a traveler
• Travelers cannot work at any WVU facility for more than one year without a 2-year break

Requirements

• Active West Virginia or compact RN license required
• Minimum of 1 year recent Med/Surg Telemetry nursing experience
• Prior travel RN experience is required
• Current ACLS and BLS certifications required
• Experience with care of post-operative and medical patients
• Ability to titrate drips, including heparin per protocol; cardiac drip experience preferred
