Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced Med/Surg Orthopedics RN for a night shift assignment requiring an active IA or compact RN license and BLS certification.

Responsibilities

• Work in an acute care Med/Surg Orthopedics unit with 28 beds and 22 overflow
• Patient population includes orthopedic cases (total knees, hips, shoulder replacements), chronic illnesses, wounds, IV infusions, dementia, oncology, and acute medical conditions
• Typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5
• Uses Epic electronic medical record system
• 12-hour night shifts with self-scheduling
• Every third weekend required, with weekends defined as Friday and Saturday nights
• Floating required to PCU and behavioral health units
• Unit supported by charge nurses (who take assignments), nurse aides (1:10 ratio), and telemonitors at the nurses' station
• Responsible for caring for a diverse group of patients with orthopedic and complex medical needs
• Expected to participate in hourly rounding and bedside shift reports
• First week includes classroom orientation and a 12-hour unit shift orientation
• Navy blue scrubs required
• Artificial nails are not permitted in any patient care areas
• Travelers must be flexible, self-directed, and comfortable adapting to change
• RTO (requested time off) must be submitted up front; additional requests will not be approved

Requirements

• Active IA or compact RN license in hand at time of consideration
• Current BLS certification required
• Minimum of 1 year recent relevant RN experience
• Driver's license must be provided for permanent address verification
• Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
• Candidates cannot be employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility within the past year
• Must pass an open book skills exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90%
