Job Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for the Med/Surg Float Pool with night shifts and strong titratable drip management skills in an acute care setting.
Responsibilities
- Work in an acute care float pool covering ICU, Med/Surg Tele, and PCU units at two campuses
- Patient population includes geriatric, ortho, post-cath lab, post-MI, and CABG post-op day 3-4 patients
- Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4 in PCU and 1:5-6 in Med/Surg Tele
- Responsibilities may include caring for patients in inpatient holds in the ED
- Typical shift is 12 hours (7pm-7am) with every other weekend required
- Float assignments are communicated 2 hours prior to shift via text from staffing
- Travel RNs are first to float between units
- On-call standby may be required during low census, with possible last-minute call-in
- Monitor techs support PCU and Med/Surg Tele; nurses must interpret their own strips
- Cerner EMR is used
- Primary duties include providing nursing care across ICU, Med/Surg, Tele, and PCU, including post-procedural monitoring and titration of critical drips
- Night shift required; scheduling set by department scheduler with 6-week published schedules
- Travelers included in the permanent staff holiday coverage rotation
- General and unit-specific orientation provided, including an 8-hour hospital orientation and shifts in key units
- Charge nurse present and does not carry a patient assignment; nurse aides utilized in all settings
- Solid color professional scrubs required, transitioning to navy scrubs in October
- Pass/fail testing required on first day of orientation for sterile technique skills
- Failure of required exams results in ineligibility for 6 months with area facilities
- First-time travelers are considered
Requirements
- Active AZ or compact RN license required at time of application
- BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience, with at least 1 year in an ICU setting
- Must successfully pass a dysrhythmia exam prior to contract signing
- Experience titrating drips such as Heparin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitro, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Insulin required
- Proficiency in central line dressing changes and Foley catheter sterile technique will be tested at orientation
- Must not have been employed (full time, part time, or PRN) at any CommonSpirit facility within the past year
- Candidates must live at least 50 miles from the facility
