Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiac Telemetry Stepdown position requiring a NE or compact RN license and strong cardiac care skills.

Responsibilities

  • Work in an 18-bed stepdown Cardiovascular Unit (CVU) within an acute care hospital setting
  • Care for patients requiring intermediate care, including post-surgical cardiovascular and downgraded CVICU patients
  • Handles cases related to the thoracic program, EP, cath lab, structural heart, cath lab, CVAs, CHF, A fib RVR, and other cardiac and vascular diagnoses
  • Typical nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4, with 1:3 for post-surgical patients in the first 24 hours
  • Required to titrate cardiovascular drips including amiodarone, nitroglycerin, nicardipine, epinephrine, cardizem, and others for blood pressure management
  • RNs are responsible for reading and interpreting cardiac monitor strips; tele monitoring uses hardwired and box capabilities
  • Utilizes EPIC EMR; experience with EPIC is expected
  • Works 12-hour day shifts (0630-1900), with every other weekend required
  • Floats to units of the same or lower acuity as needed
  • Navy blue scrubs are required
  • RNs must pass an open book skills exam during orientation, requiring a 90% passing score to continue employment
  • Nurse aids/patient care techs are present (1:18 ratio)
  • Hospitalist and intensivist coverage is available 24/7, with dedicated Cardiology on call after hours
  • Respiratory therapy support is available 24/7; RNs may be required to troubleshoot RT equipment such as BiPAP, CPAP, and nasal cannula
  • Unit orientation is tailored to experience, typically 1-2 shifts
  • Up to 7 days of requested time off are permitted per 13-week contract; additional RTO will not be approved
  • Artificial nails are prohibited for all staff providing patient care
  • First-time travelers will be considered for this position
  • Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility

Requirements

  • Active NE or compact RN license required at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
  • Minimum of 2 years RN experience, with at least 1 year working with cardiac/stepdown patient population
  • Current certifications in BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS required
  • Experience with titrating cardiac drips required
  • Ability to read and interpret cardiac monitor strips is essential
  • Proof of driver's license required for verification of residence beyond the 50-mile radius
  • Must provide two professional references: one supervisor from within the last year and one supervisor or peer from within the last three years
  • Cannot have been employed full time, part time, or PRN by any facility in the CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity networks within the past year
