Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN with a CA license for a night shift ICU position requiring ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certification.

Responsibilities

• Work in a 20-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in an acute care hospital setting
• Patient population includes sepsis, DKA/hyperglycemia, COPD, post-op recovery, GI bleeds, and cardiac cases
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2 in ICU, with potential to float to telemetry or med-surg units at higher ratios
• Travelers may be assigned to care for boarded ICU patients in the ED or float to other floors
• Use of Cerner EMR system
• Must be able to read and interpret cardiac telemetry strips (GE equipment)
• 12-hour night shifts with a requirement of 2 weekends per 4-week period
• Holiday coverage required for 2 out of 3 major holidays
• First to float policy for travelers
• Responsible for managing ICU patients as well as floating to telemetry or med-surg and assuming a full patient load
• Two-shift ICU orientation plus one shift on an alternate unit provided
• Charge RN available as a resource on each shift and does not take a patient assignment
• RT and pharmacy coverage available 24/7
• Navy scrubs required
• Travelers are prioritized for floating to other units
• Must be comfortable working with ventilated patients, administering sedation agents, and managing cardiac interventions
• Not designated as a STEMI center, but care of post-PCI and general cardiac cases is required
• First-time travelers are considered

Requirements

• Active CA RN license required at the time of consideration
• Minimum 2 years of recent ICU experience
• Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• CCRN certification and basic critical care course preferred
• Proficient with the ABCDE bundle and ventilator management
• Strong IV skills required
• Must successfully pass the Relias Dysrhythmia exam and sterile technique tests prior to or during orientation
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from the past year and one peer or supervisor from the past three years
• Copy of driver’s license required for consideration
• Candidates must not have been employed by CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facilities in the past year
