Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro ICU position requiring 1.5 years of experience, NM or compact RN license, and ACLS, BCLS, and NIH certifications.

Responsibilities

• Work in a Neuro ICU within a Level I Trauma, Teaching, and Children's Hospital
• Patient population includes TBI, SAH, SDH, tumor resections, status epilepticus, and other neurological disorders
• Nurse-to-patient ratios are typically 1:2
• May be required to float within scope to other ICUs, PCU, ED, or PACU, with occasional 6:1 ratios in non-standard settings
• Potential to be reassigned to Cardiothoracic ICU based on facility needs
• 36 or 48-hour week contracts available
• Weekend shifts required as determined by unit needs
• Block scheduling may be accommodated but is not guaranteed
• Day shifts available (4x12 hours, 07:00-19:30)
• Electronic charting using Cerner
• Provide critical care for neuro patients, including those with severe head injuries and post-neurosurgical needs
• Must be comfortable caring for patients on CRRT, with EVDs, and with complex neurological needs
• First-time travelers are accepted for this position
• Must wear black scrubs
• No local candidates permitted within a 75-mile radius
• Floating may occur to other intensive care and progressive care settings
• Holiday coverage and block RTO subject to approval and restrictions
• Assignment is at a comprehensive stroke center

• Drug screening and P/F testing required prior to start
• Pending licenses are acceptable at the time of consideration

Requirements

• Active NM or compact state RN license, or eligibility with pending license accepted
• Current ACLS, BCLS, and NIH certifications required
• Minimum of 1.5 years of ICU nursing experience required
• Experience with EVD insertions, neuro post-op care, A-line insertions, intubation, central line insertions, CRRT, post-TPA and thrombectomy care, dysrhythmia interpretation and management
• Experience using EVDs and CRRT equipment
• COVID-19 vaccination required; religious and medical exemptions accepted with appropriate documentation
• No RQI certifications accepted
