Job Description

American Traveler is seeking a Telemetry RN for an acute observation unit night shift requiring prior travel experience and ACLS/BLS certification.

Responsibilities

• Position is in a 32-bed acute care telemetry observation unit
• Care for adults and geriatric patients with respiratory and medical diagnoses, including trach care
• Nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:6
• Night shift with 12-hour shifts (6:45 pm to 7:15 am), every other weekend required, rotational holidays
• Uses Epic EMR; Epic experience preferred
• Monitor techs are present 24/7, but RNs must review telemetry strips each shift
• Charge nurse is present and may be assigned patients; travelers may be asked to fill the charge RN role if willing
• Requires floating to Med-Surg units or Emergency Department boarder patient care if not needed on home unit
• Uses equipment such as CPAP, BiPAP, High Flow O2, IV pumps, and sequential compression devices
• Responsibilities include reviewing and interpreting telemetry strips, providing trach care, and managing titratable drips
• Full-day hospital and nursing orientation provided, including skills checklist and two 12-hour orientation shifts with a preceptor
• Solid navy scrubs are required with no embroidery or patterns; closed-toed shoes only
• Holiday coverage is based on rotation with consideration given to previous holiday assignments
• Block scheduling may be requested and will be accommodated based on unit needs
• Floating pool floats first, then core and traveler RNs are rotated
• Local travelers are not accepted; must live outside a 50-mile radius of the facility
• Travelers cannot work at any WVU facility for more than one year without a mandatory two-year break

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license required
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Minimum of 2 years of Med-Surg/Telemetry experience, with experience titrating critical drips and providing trach care
• Prior travel nursing experience required
• Ability to titrate drips including Heparin, Cardizem (up to 15mg/hr), Lasix, Dopamine (low dose), and Amiodarone
• MS/Tele RNs should have a strong cardiac background
• Experience with peritoneal dialysis preferred
• No prior employment within any WVU Medicine facility within the last 2 years
