Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced Telemetry RN with at least two years of med-surg/tele and prior travel experience for an acute care observation unit in West Virginia.

Responsibilities

• Work in a 32-bed acute care telemetry observation unit with primarily adult and geriatric patients
• Common patient diagnoses include respiratory and medical conditions, with care for patients with trachs (not vented)
• Nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:6
• Unit has 24/7 monitor techs and charge nurses; travelers may be cross-trained for charge nurse duties
• Shift is 12 hours, days, from 6:45 am to 7:15 pm, with every other weekend and rotational holidays required
• Block scheduling is allowed as long as unit needs are met
• Floating may be required to other Med-Surg units or the Emergency Department for boarded patients
• Uses Epic EMR; experience with Epic preferred
• RT equipment includes CPAP, BiPAP, high-flow O2, trach collars, IV pumps, and pulse oximetry
• RNs are responsible for strip review each shift in collaboration with monitor techs and charge nurses
• Two 12-hour orientation shifts with a preceptor are provided, along with first-day general orientation and computer training
• Navy scrubs are required for RNs; scrubs must be solid color with no patterns or embroidery
• Solid color fleece zip-ups and undershirts permitted in specific colors; closed-toed shoes required
• No local travelers allowed; must live more than 50 miles from the facility
• Returning travelers must have a 2-year break from any WVU Medicine location for consideration
• Travelers are limited to working within WVU facilities for up to one year, after which a two-year break is required
• Holiday scheduling is managed with consideration for prior years' coverage and preferences

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license required
• Minimum 2 years of recent Med-Surg/Telemetry RN experience
• Prior travel RN experience required
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Experience with telemetry, critical drips, and trach care required
• Experience with peritoneal dialysis preferred
• Ability to titrate drips such as Heparin, Cardizem (up to 15mg/hr), Lasix, Dopamine (low dose), and Amiodarone
