Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a 12-hour night shift Emergency Department position at an Off-Campus ED, requiring a WA or compact RN license and strong Emergency Department clinical skills.

Responsibilities

• Position based in an Off-Campus Emergency Department (OCED) setting
• Typical patient census ranges from 73 to 110 patients per day depending on location
• 10 ED beds with 7-10 hallway spaces, serving neonates through geriatrics with around 25% pediatric patients
• Common cases include cardiac, neuro, GI, respiratory, psych, walk-in traumas, and frequent gunshot wounds
• Patient ratios are generally 1:4; fast track area is 1:6 with team nursing support
• Registered Nurses also manage ventilated patients due to lack of on-site RTs
• Use of Epic charting system, as well as Alaris and Pyxis equipment
• 12-hour night shifts with varied start times (between 1500 and 1900), 36 hours per week
• Weekend and holiday rotation are required and may be negotiable
• Floating to other OCED sites may be required as needed
• Nurses are responsible for managing ventilators, BiPAP, and mixing their own medications under pharmacy video supervision
• Charge nurse duties may be assigned and training for this is available if needed
• Unit support includes LPNs and limited EST/phlebotomy, with most blood draws done by RNs or LPNs
• Comprehensive orientation includes hospital orientation, unit educator-led training, respiratory class, and on-unit shadowing
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Scrub color is flexible; any color is permitted

• Up to 5 days of time off may be considered; longer requests require management approval

Requirements

• Active WA or compact RN license
• Minimum 2 years of recent Emergency Department experience required
• Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP, NIHSS, and TNCC certifications required
• Strong IV, medication administration, chest tube, and central line management skills required
• Experience with ventilators and BiPAP preferred; training provided if needed
• Telemetry competency required—must be completed and passed prior to start
