Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Orthopedics night shift position, requiring a NE or compact RN license and at least 2 years of acute care experience.

Responsibilities

• Work in an acute care hospital setting on the Med/Surg Orthopedics unit
• 22-bed unit with an average daily census of 6 patients
• Patient population includes total joint replacements (knees, hips, ankles, shoulders) and spine cases
• Nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:5-6
• Nurse aides/patient care techs provide support with a 1:13 ratio
• Night shift, 12-hour shifts (1830-0630), self-scheduling with cyclic rotation
• Every other weekend and rotating holidays required
• Must be willing to float to MedSurg, rehab, or PCU at MedSurg acuity when needed
• Unit uses Epic EMR
• Position involves providing nursing care for orthopedic and post-surgical patients
• Tele/monitor techs are available to interpret tele strips
• Pain medication, antibiotics, and blood drips are administered but RN does not titrate drips
• Team-oriented and flexible nurses who take ownership and are willing to learn excel on this unit
• Charge nurse is present on each shift
• Scrub policy enforces no artificial nails
• One day of unit-specific orientation is provided
• Requested time off must be submitted upfront and limited to 7 days per 13-week contract; additional time off is not approved

Requirements

• Active NE or compact RN license in hand
• Minimum of 2 years of recent acute care RN experience
• Current BLS certification required
• Must provide a copy of driver’s license for compliance with 50-mile radius rule
• Must provide two professional references: one supervisor from the past 12 months, one peer or supervisor from the past 3 years
• No current or recent full-time, part-time, or PRN employment within any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and/or Dignity
• Must pass an open-book skills exam with a score of at least 90% during orientation
• Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments
