Job Description
American Traveler is seeking a Registered Nurse for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) night shift role that requires Trauma Level I experience and flexibility with weekend scheduling.
Responsibilities
- Work in a hospital-based Progressive Care Unit focused on cardiovascular patient populations with a primary PCU/step-down setting
- Care for patients with congestive heart failure, MI, pulmonary hypertension, arrhythmias, COPD, congenital heart defects, infective endocarditis, and complex comorbidities
- Patient ratios are typically 1:4
- Handles post-cath lab procedures and pre/post advanced cardiac interventions
- Night shift schedule (3x12 hours, 19:00–07:30)
- Floating required within PCU and to Med-Surg, ICU, and between affiliate hospitals as needed
- Uses Cerner EMR, Cerner experience required or preferred
- May be assigned charge nurse responsibilities based on operational needs
- Precepting and student shadowing may be required as part of a teaching hospital environment
- Provide advanced nursing care for a wide range of complex cardiovascular patients
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and may orient or precept students as part of duties
- Charge shift responsibilities may be required as determined by the unit
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- All travelers must be flexible with weekend requirements, with a minimum expectation of working 50% of weekends in the contract
- Must be willing to float as assigned within the hospital and between affiliate sites
- Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays during the contract
- Up to 5 days of requested time off (RTO) will be auto-approved
- Call-ins may require making up missed shifts, per facility attendance policy
Requirements
- Active IN or compact RN license in hand
- Minimum of 2 years of recent nursing experience in Trauma Level I hospital settings
- BCLS certification required; ACLS preferred
- Experience with cardiac drips, post-cath lab, IV starts, and sheath pulls required
- Conscious sedation and telemetry monitoring experience preferred
- Must be a graduate of an ACEN or CCNE-accredited nursing program
- Cerner charting experience required or highly preferred
- Not accepting local candidates for this position
- Return applicants must not have worked as permanent or PRN staff at this hospital system within the past 12 months
