Job Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Med/Surg RN for a night shift assignment requiring a compact or WV license and current BLS certification.

Responsibilities

• Work in an acute care Med/Surg unit with 35-42 beds
• Patient ratio is 1:5-6 for both shifts
• Wide variety of patient cases including altered mental status, cardiac (no active chest pain), renal, cancer, overflow stroke, traumatic brain injury, appendectomy, chest tubes, and wound care
• Monitoring via tele, with basic arrhythmia recognition required
• Common equipment includes Bipap, Cpap, and High Flow devices
• No IV team; nurses handle IVs for Heparin and Protonix drips (not titrated or cardiac-level drips)
• EMR used is Epic
• Night shift schedule: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM, 3 12-hour shifts per week
• Every other weekend and holiday coverage required as needed
• Floating may be required within Med/Surg units but not to ER or Behavioral Health
• 1-2 shifts of unit-specific orientation with a preceptor
• Med/Surg nurses are responsible for providing care to a diverse adult population with complex medical needs
• Charge nurse available 24/7 with support from PCTs and in-house hospitalist, pharmacy, and respiratory therapy teams
• Scrub color is navy blue with navy or white jacket required; natural hair colors only and tattoos must be covered
• Time-off requests should be made through Kronos; at least two weeks' notice is required for a four-week block
• Unit requires flexibility with block scheduling and supports night-shift blocks
• RTO may affect holiday or weekend coverage requirements
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply if other requirements are met
• Must pass all required onboarding modules and facility compliance requirements

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license required
• Minimum 2 years of recent Med/Surg nursing experience
• Current BLS certification (AHA); ACLS preferred
• Basic arrhythmia knowledge required
• Epic EMR experience preferred
• COVID-19 vaccination required unless approved for medical or religious exemption
• Driver's license address must be outside a 50-mile radius from the facility
• Must submit a copy of an unexpired driver's license for consideration
• Must not have been a perm or travel employee of any WVU Medicine facility within the last two years
