Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg, Acute Care night shift position requiring an active IL RN license and BLS certification.
Responsibilities
- Work in the Acute Care G200 unit of a hospital, focusing on medical-surgical patient care
- 29-bed unit with typical census of 22-26 patients
- Patient ratio is 4-5:1 during the day and 5-6:1 at night
- Common diagnoses include GI bleeds, sepsis, CHF, cellulitis, DVT, pulmonary embolism, COVID, and elderly fall patients
- Assigned to 12-hour night shifts from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM
- Required to work every other weekend and rotate holidays
- Travel RNs are first to float to similar med/surg units; no floating to ICUs or chemo patients
- No on-call or standby responsibilities
- Uses Epic EMR; unit equipment includes Phillips telemetry monitored remotely
- No ventilated patients; oxygen up to 6L NC, BiPAP/CPAP as needed
- Duties include patient assessment, medication administration, Heparin titration, IV starts, coordination of care, and collaboration with team members
- RNs expected to attempt IV starts with phlebotomy team available for blood draws
- Charge RN, crisis RN, and administrative supervisor available 24/7 as support resources
- 24-hour coverage by patient care technicians; PCT ratio is 1:10
- Two-shift orientation is provided before assuming full patient care responsibilities
- Any color scrubs are acceptable, provided by the nurse; no pediatric scrubs allowed
- Local candidates within 50 miles are accepted but subject to a different pay rate
Requirements
- Active IL RN license required at time of consideration
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
- Minimum of 2 years recent med/surg RN experience required
- EPIC charting experience preferred
- Must be willing and able to titrate Heparin drips
- COVID vaccination is not required
