Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced Med/Surg RN with strong infectious disease and isolation skills for a 13-week acute care assignment requiring travel experience and a WV or compact RN license.

Responsibilities

• Work in a private 18-bed Medical Surgical/Infectious Disease unit within an acute care setting
• Care for patients with a range of infectious diseases, including COVID-19, MRSA, and C-Diff, with private rooms for isolation
• Patient ratios are 1:5-6, or 1:4 for COVID patients, with 3-4 RNs per shift and 2 CNAs per shift
• No cardiac drips required; administer Med/Surg IV medications and antibiotics as needed
• Use Epic EMR; 1 day of EPIC orientation provided
• 12-hour day shifts (0700-1930) with every other weekend required, and block scheduling permitted based on unit needs
• Travelers are required to float first to other Med/Surg units and may be assigned Tele patients within skillset
• No vent management required, but may encounter patients on CPAP, BiPAP, or high-flow oxygen managed by RT
• Job duties include providing nursing care, medication administration, and implementing isolation protocols for infectious disease patients
• Charge nurse is present on all shifts, with day charge assisting with patients if needed and night charge always with an assignment
• Royal blue scrubs required; jackets must be scrub style and royal blue, with no hoodies or sweatshirts permitted
• Floating is required as needed based on staffing, with travelers prioritized for floating assignments
• Holiday work may be required depending on unit staffing needs
• First-time travelers are not eligible for this position
• Candidates must live more than 50 miles from the facility to qualify
• Previous employees of WVU facilities must have a 2-year gap before returning as a traveler, and cumulative travel cannot exceed one year in the system without a subsequent 2-year break

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license required
• Minimum 2 years of recent Med/Surg RN experience required
• Previous travel nursing experience mandatory
• Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association required
• Strong expertise in medical surgical, infectious disease, and isolation precautions required
• Unexpired copy of driver’s license required for consideration
