Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardio Thoracic Telemetry night position requiring an active IL license and strong EKG interpretation skills.
Responsibilities
- Work in the Cardio Thoracic Unit within an acute care hospital setting
- Telemetry unit managing cardiac and thoracic surgical patients
- Common diagnoses include MI, CHF, A fib, COPD, post-pacemaker/AICD placement, chest tubes, esophagectomies, and general medical overflow
- Unit consists of 70 beds with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:4-5 (days) and 1:5-6 (nights)
- RN responsible for titrating drips such as Cardizem and heparin
- Shifts are 12 hours, 1900-0730, on a rotating weekend and holiday schedule
- EMR system used is Epic
- Floating may be required to other general medical units
- Phillips telemetry monitors are used and nurses must be able to read and interpret rhythms
- No call or standby is currently required for this role
- Responsibilities include caring for complex cardiac and thoracic patients, monitoring telemetry, managing drips, and troubleshooting respiratory equipment within scope
- 24/7 charge nurse and house supervisor support is available, with charge nurses rarely taking assignments
- Patient care techs assist on the unit with ratios varying by shift
- Scrubs of any color may be worn, but child-themed or cartoon prints are not permitted
- Orientation consists of one shift or partial shift depending on prior experience within the system
- Weekend and holiday rotations are required
- COVID-19 vaccination is not required for this assignment
- Local candidates may apply; different local rates apply for those residing within 50 miles
Requirements
- Active Illinois RN license required at time of consideration
- Minimum of 2 years of recent RN experience
- Current BLS certification (AHA)
- Proficient in EKG interpretation and medication titration
- Demonstrated experience in telemetry and basic nursing skills
- Familiarity with Epic EMR preferred
- ACLS certification is recommended but not required
