Job Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a night shift ICU assignment in Maine requiring ME or compact RN licensure and strong critical care skills.

Responsibilities

• Position is in the ICU of a hospital with 9 mixed-acuity beds
• Patient population includes medical and surgical ICU cases, Med Surg level patients, and rare pediatric overnight stays
• Common patient types include ventilator, sepsis, PNA, DKA, detox, CHF, COPD exacerbation, substance use disorders, and post-surgical complications
• ICU nurse-to-patient ratio is acuity-based, typically 1:3
• Required to work 7P-7A night shifts with every other weekend rotation
• No on-call is required
• May float to Med Surg (ratio 1:5 days, 1:6 nights) or ED for tasking
• Uses Cerner for charting
• Responsibilities include comprehensive care for critically ill adults and rare pediatric cases
• Team includes a charge RN, 24/7 RT, 24/7 hospitalist, and rotation-based intensivist support
• Orientation includes online modules and at least one shift on unit, with additional charge nurse training if needed
• Professional scrubs of any color are permitted
• Free parking is available
• Must comply with mandatory flu vaccination or provide a medical exemption prior to start
• Holiday coverage is required as needed
• First-time travelers are accepted for this assignment

Requirements

• Active ME or compact RN license required
• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience with at least 1 year in ICU
• Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, PALS
• Must be willing to train for and work charge nurse shifts as needed
• Experience with vents, telemetry strips, chest tubes, trachs, drains, wound vacs, IVs, PCAs, epidurals (rare), CVP, A-lines, insulin and cardiac drips
• Must be able to read and interpret arrhythmia strips for ICU and Med Surg units
• Cannot have worked in a permanent role at any Northern Light Health Hospital
• Permanent address must be 100+ miles South or Southwest of EMMC, Bangor ME
