Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an RN for an Emergency Department position in a Level IV Trauma Center, requiring an active AK RN license and strong experience managing critical cases.

Responsibilities

• Work in the Emergency Department of a critical access, nonprofit hospital
• Level IV Trauma Center serving a regional population including Ketchikan and surrounding islands
• Primary schedule is 3x12 hour night shifts with some flexibility to work days or evenings depending on unit needs
• Nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:4
• Handles all ages and patient populations including trauma, cardiac, psychiatric, med/surg, and critical care cases
• Epic EMR system is used; Epic experience is preferred
• No floating outside the Emergency Department is required
• No on-call responsibilities
• Block scheduling is not allowed
• Provide emergency care for patients arriving via ground, boat, or air from remote communities
• Work in a high-volume, high-risk, and intermittently fast-paced environment
• Must not have been employed by the health system within the past year
• No local candidates within a 60-mile radius will be accepted
• Open to first-time travelers with relevant emergency care experience
• Scrub uniforms in any color are permitted
• Free parking available on site
• Holiday coverage may be required depending on unit needs

Requirements

• Active Alaska RN license required; pending license may be considered if start date allows for processing
• Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and PALS
• TNCC and ENPC preferred
• Prefer 2-3 years of emergency nursing experience; at least 1 year in an ER setting preferred
• Experience with managing cardiac, critical care, complex med/surg, psychiatric, and multiple trauma patients independently
• IV skills for all ages and prior telemetry experience required
• Epic EMR charting experience preferred, but not required
• Fully vaccinated for COVID-19 required
