Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN with an active NE or compact license, ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications for a Level 1 trauma Med Surg ICU.

Responsibilities

  • Position is within the Medical Surgical Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a Level 1 trauma acute care hospital
  • Unit has 34 beds with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:1-2 for ICU, 1:4-5 PCU, and 1:5-6 Med Surg
  • Cares for adult and pediatric patients over 15 years old with conditions including neuro surgery, respiratory failure, ARDS, sepsis, cardiogenic shock, renal failure, and stroke
  • Uses advanced equipment such as CVPs, Alines, Swan-Ganz, EV-1000, ICP monitors, Thermoguard, Bell Mont rapid transfuser, and centralized Draeger telemetry
  • RNs are required to read and interpret telemetry strips without monitor techs
  • Responsible for titration of drips including vasopressors, paralytics, narcotics, sedation, and antiarrhythmics
  • Work schedule is 12-hour day shifts (6:30am–6:30pm)
  • Every other weekend and every other holiday coverage is required
  • Floating required to all inpatient units except Maternity/NICU
  • EPIC is used for charting
  • Perform comprehensive care for critically ill adults and older pediatric patients, including neurological and cardiac monitoring, advanced hemodynamic management, and responding to RRTs and Codes
  • Collaborate with attendings, fellows, residents, and a multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment
  • Unit is supported by charge nurses and patient care techs
  • Two shifts of unit-specific orientation provided with a pass/fail skills exam that requires a 90% score to continue assignment
  • No artificial nails allowed in the clinical setting
  • Navy blue scrubs are required
  • Maximum of 7 days RTO may be requested upfront per 13-week contract
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply

Requirements

  • Active NE or compact RN license required at time of consideration
  • Minimum of 2 years ICU RN experience required
  • Certifications required: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS
  • Ability to read and interpret telemetry from Draeger monitors
  • Must provide two professional references, including one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years
  • Driver’s license required to confirm residence is more than 50 miles from facility
  • No current or recent (within 1 year) full-time, part-time, or PRN employment with any facility associated with CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity
