Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an RN for a Med/Surg Tele position in a secure corrections oncology unit, requiring Epic charting experience and an active OH or compact RN license.

Responsibilities

• Work in a secure corrections unit within a hospital setting, caring for Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections inmates
• Floats to various oncology medical-surgical (MS) units as needed
• Patient population includes individuals with active oncology diagnoses, oncology workups, history of cancer, and general medical conditions
• Nurse to patient ratio is 1:3 for PCU and 1:4-5 for MS
• Some shifts assigned to Medical-Surgical, others to Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
• Cardiac monitoring and telemetry required
• Day (7:00-19:30) and night (19:00-7:30) shifts available with 3x12 hour schedule
• Medication management with Pyxis system
• Epic EMR is used and prior experience is required
• Weekend shift requirements vary based on unit need
• Unit is locked with access controlled by Corrections Officers
• Primary responsibilities include medical-surgical and telemetry nursing for corrections oncology patients
• Perform dysrhythmia interpretation, non-invasive airway management, renal failure management, and feeding tube care
• Administer IV therapies, blood products, cardiac drips (no titration), and manage PCA
• Care for patients pre/post hemodialysis and with tracheostomies
• Collaborate with provider support services including pharmacy, PT, respiratory, and rapid response teams
• Current employees of any Ohio State University hospital location are not eligible
• Former employees are eligible if separated for at least 6 months
• Locals are accepted at the same rate as non-local travelers
• Scrub and dress code requirements will be provided upon offer
• Time off (RTO) requests must be submitted with initial application

Requirements

• Active OH or compact RN license required at time of consideration
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Oncology experience preferred but not required
• At least one professional reference from a manager, director, or formal supervisor required for consideration
• Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE-accredited program
• Experience with Epic EMR required
• Competency in medical-surgical and telemetry nursing skills
• Must complete Ohio fingerprinting process as instructed immediately upon contract signing
• Physical ability to provide care within a secure corrections environment
