Job Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Cardiac Renal Stepdown position on nights, requiring a compact or IN RN license and strong cardiac telemetry experience.

Responsibilities

• Position is based in the Cardiac Renal Stepdown Unit of a teaching hospital
• 32-bed unit with high-acuity cardiac telemetry and medical/surgical patients
• Patient population includes Afib with RVR, heart blocks, CHF, COPD, sepsis, BH/CIWA, post-ablation, and dialysis cases
• Nights 12-hour shifts (6:30pm-7am), including three weekends per six weeks and every other holiday
• Float required within skillset to nearby campuses (Deaconess Newburgh and Deaconess Henderson) with 2-hour notice for cross-campus float
• Night shift patient ratios are typically 1:5-7
• Uses Epic EMR; recent Epic experience is required
• Responsibilities include managing high-acuity cardiac/tele patients, interpreting EKGs, titrating antiarrhythmic and anticoagulant drips, and performing nursing interventions related to nephrostomy and chest tubes
• May be required to precept students and new hires as part of a teaching hospital environment
• Team has excellent retention and strong leadership, with a manager of over 15 years
• Scrubs must be free of competing health system or agency logos
• Maximum of three call-ins may result in termination
• COVID-19 vaccination is not currently required but is subject to change
• No local candidates; applicants must live more than 40 miles from the facility

Requirements

• Active IN or compact RN license required
• AHA BLS, AHA ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of strong cardiac/telemetry experience and completion of at least one travel assignment required
• Trauma Level II experience required
• Must be able to interpret 12-lead EKG and pass telemetry competency tests
• Experience with PIV insertion, chest tube and drain management, CBI, nephrostomy tubes, and titrating cardiac drips is required
• Strong assessment and critical thinking skills are essential
• Recent Epic EMR usage is required, and candidates must complete a checkoff class
