Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Medical Ortho Med/Surg day shift position with strong Med/Surg and trauma level II experience required.

Responsibilities

• Work in a Medical Ortho Med/Surg unit with both medical and surgical patients
• 32-bed unit expanding to 37 beds in January 2025
• Typical patient population includes confusion/BH/CIWA, CHF, COPD, UTI, cellulitis, sepsis, amputations, decubitus ulcers, and general surgeries
• 12-hour day shifts from 6:30am to 7:00pm
• Three weekends required every six weeks and every other holiday coverage
• First to float within skillset, with potential floating to nearby campuses within 11 miles with two hours' notice
• Mid-shift float within the same campus possible; cross-campus mid-shift float is unlikely but may occur
• No on-call or call-back requirements
• Recent experience with Epic charting required
• Responsibilities include management of IV fluid and antibiotic therapies, strong medical and post-surgical assessments, heparin gtts., wound care and wound vacs, and basic telemetry
• May be required to precept students and new hires as part of a teaching hospital environment
• Navy blue scrubs required; no competing health system or agency logos allowed
• Strong teamwork with experienced leadership and charge nurses on unit
• Social, resilient, and adaptable candidates are preferred
• Three call-ins may result in termination
• COVID-19 vaccine is not required at this time but is subject to change

Requirements

• Active IN or compact RN license required
• Current AHA BLS and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum of two years strong Med/Surg RN experience
• At least one completed travel assignment
• Prior trauma level II experience required
• Recent Epic EMR experience required and completion of a checkoff class
• Must reside outside a 40-mile radius from the facility
