Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a night shift Ortho Neuro Trauma Care Center Med/Surg position, requiring a compact RN license and strong neuro/trauma skills.

Responsibilities

• Work in a 44-bed Ortho Neuro Trauma Care Center in a hospital setting
• Patient population includes trauma, orthopedic injuries (broken hip/femur), and neuro cases (spine, neck, rib fractures)
• Night shift schedule with 12-hour shifts from 6:30 PM to 7:00 AM
• Staffing ratios range from 1:4-7 on nights; charge nurses take patients at night
• Required to float first within skillset, including cross-campus float with a 2-hour notice
• Potential to float to nearby campuses within Indiana and Kentucky
• No on-call or call-back requirements
• Weekend requirement is three out of every six weeks; coverage required for every other holiday
• Uses Epic EMR system with a required checkoff class
• Expected to demonstrate critical thinking and resilience in a fast-paced environment
• Travelers are treated as core team members with supportive leadership
• Possibility of precepting students and new-hires as part of a teaching hospital
• Navy blue scrubs required with no competing health system or agency logos
• COVID-19 vaccine is not currently required, but this may change
• Three call-ins may result in termination
• Holiday unit closures may impact scheduled hours

Requirements

• Active IN or compact RN license
• Current AHA BLS and NIHSS certifications
• Minimum of 2 years RN experience required
• At least one year of recent ortho, neuro, or trauma experience
• At least one prior travel assignment and Level II trauma experience required
• Recent Epic charting experience required
• Strong neuro assessment skills, experience with log rolling, assistive devices, tele/12-lead EKG interpretation (must pass a Tele test), and PIV insertion
• Ability to manage chest tubes, indwelling drains, drips, epidural, PEG/NG tubes, Buck’s traction, pin site care, On-Q management, CIWA/BH, and wound care is preferred
• No local candidates within a 40-mile radius
