Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Surgical Medical Care Center Med/Surg position requiring an active compact RN license and recent Epic experience.

Responsibilities

• Work in a 41-bed Surgical Medical Care Center within a teaching hospital
• Day shifts: 12 hours (6:30 am - 7:00 pm)
• Patient population includes post-surgical (Whipples, vascular, bariatric, ENT, podiatry, open bellies), dementia, AMS, CIWA/detox, thyroid surgeries, pre/post heart caths, and fall risk patients
• Typical ratio is 1:5-6 on days
• Floating required; may float to Deaconess Newburgh and Henderson campuses with 2-hour notice for cross-campus float
• Weekend requirement: three weekends per six-week schedule; holiday coverage required for every other holiday
• Uses Epic for charting; recent Epic experience and checkoff class required
• No on-call responsibilities
• Primary duties include specialized post-surgical care, wound management, medication administration, and telemetry interpretation
• Strong teamwork and supportive leadership with experienced charge nurses and PCTs
• May be required to precept students and orient new hires
• Navy blue scrubs are required; no competitive health system or agency logos allowed
• Unit has an excellent culture with regular team celebrations
• COVID-19 vaccination currently not required but subject to change

Requirements

• Active IN or compact RN license required
• Current AHA BLS and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum two years of strong Med/Surg experience and at least one previous travel assignment required
• Trauma Level II experience required
• Recent Epic charting experience required
• Proven skills in PIV insertion, chest tube and indwelling drain management, CBI, stable drips (heparin, lasix, protonix), epidural management, ostomy care, blood product administration, tele interpretation, wound care, and pre/post heart cath care
• Strong assessment and critical thinking skills required
• Must be resilient, hard-working, socially adept, and able to manage change well
• Will not consider local candidates within a 40-mile radius
