Job Description

American Traveler is hiring a Medical Orthopedic Med/Surg RN with two years of experience, EPIC proficiency, and night shift availability.

Responsibilities

• Work in a hospital Med/Surg orthopedic unit with 32 beds, increasing to 37 in January 2025
• Patient population includes medical and postsurgical patients, including CHF, COPD, confusion, CIWA, UTI, cellulitis, sepsis, amputations, wound care, and general surgeries
• Typical schedule is 12-hour night shifts from 6:30 PM to 7:00 AM
• Three weekends required per six-week schedule, with every other holiday worked
• First to float within skillset, may float to nearby campuses with 2-hour notice
• Uses the EPIC charting system with check-off class required
• Unit emphasizes teamwork, new leadership, and experienced charge nurses
• May be required to precept students and new hires as this is a teaching hospital
• COVID-19 vaccine is not required but may be subject to change
• Navy blue scrubs required; no competing agency or system logos allowed
• Three call-ins may result in termination
• Orientation may impact scheduled hours during the first week

Requirements

• Active IN or compact RN license required
• American Heart Association BLS and NIHSS certifications required
• At least two years of recent Med/Surg experience and one previous travel assignment required
• Recent experience at a Trauma Level II facility required
• Proficiency with IV fluid/antibiotic therapies, medical/post-surgical assessments, heparin gtts, wound vacs, and basic telemetry
• EPIC experience required
• No local candidates; must live more than 40 miles from the facility
