Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro Cardiac Med/Surg Tele position requiring a compact RN license, strong telemetry experience, and travel assignment background.

Responsibilities

• Position is on the Neuro Cardiac Unit within a hospital setting
• Complex Med/Surg/Tele patient population including post-cardiac cath, CVA/TIA, ICD, complex abdominal surgeries, oncology, and post-op cranial patients
• 32-bed unit with day ratios of 1:4-5 (1:6 rare), night ratios 1:6-7, and charge nurse has a patient assignment on all shifts
• 12-hour day shifts from 6:30 am to 7:00 pm
• Required to work three weekends in every six-week schedule and every other holiday
• First to float within skillset to additional campuses within 8-11 miles, with 2-hour notice for cross-campus float; mid-shift float within same campus possible
• Uses Epic EMR; recent Epic experience required
• No on-call or call-back requirements
• Responsibilities include care for patients with complex medical, surgical, and neuro/cardiac conditions
• Must perform NIHSS and dysphagia screens and display strong critical thinking and assessment skills
• Teaching hospital setting may require precepting students and new-hires
• Navy blue scrubs required; no health system or agency logos allowed
• After three call-ins, the contract may be terminated
• Must not reside within 40 miles of the facility
• COVID-19 vaccination is not required but is subject to change
• Supportive unit culture with welcoming staff, proactive charge nurses, and helpful clerical resources
• Charge nurse experience preferred, and skills such as NG/PEG tubes, PIV insertion, Tikosyn dosing, and chest tubes are desirable but not required

Requirements

• Active IN or compact state RN license required
• Current AHA BLS and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certifications required
• Minimum two years of strong Tele/Med/Surg experience and at least one prior travel assignment required
• Trauma level II experience required
• Recent Epic charting experience and ability to pass a telemetry test required
• Strong neuro assessment, dysphagia screening, telemetry, and 12-lead EKG interpretation skills required
• Ability to initiate and titrate drips (insulin, cardiac, heparin, etc.) and perform heart cath recovery required
