Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) with strong cardiac telemetry skills and night shift availability.

Responsibilities

• Position is in the PCU/stepdown unit of a hospital setting
• Night shift schedule (3x12 hours: 18:45–07:15); 36 hours per week required
• Assignments range from 13 to 26 weeks
• Patient population includes cardiac and vascular diagnoses such as A-fib, CHF, ACS, CAD, endocarditis, and various post-surgical cases
• Patient ratios are 1:4 for surgical stepdown and 1:5-6 for lower acuity
• Required to work 4 weekend shifts within every 4-week period with flexible scheduling
• Floating follows unit rotation; not first to float
• Special procedures include CABG, TAVR, Mitral Clip, LAAO, thoracic surgeries, and post-cardiac cath care
• Uses Pyxis for medication management and Epic for charting and documentation
• PCU nurses will provide care for complex cardiac and vascular patients, including post-surgical and post-procedure cases
• May be assigned to work as part of the Storm Team or Hurricane Team during catastrophic events or disasters
• Consolidation to a centralized staffing office may occur during contract, with possible pre-assignment to other units as needed
• 24 hours of unit orientation provided
• Navy scrubs required
• Every candidate will be interviewed prior to hire
• RTO after booking is not permitted; call-offs or additional RTO may result in contract cancellation
• First time travelers accepted if they possess more than 24 months of cardiac experience
• Locals accepted at the same rate

Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license required
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certifications required
• Minimum of 2 years of cardiac floor experience required
• Traveler experience required unless possessing more than 24 months of cardiac experience
• Proficiency in cardiac telemetry, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, sheath removal, pre/post cardiac cath care, cardiac drip titration, chest tube management, and non-invasive airway management required
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start
