Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position requiring a GA or compact RN license, with ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications.

Responsibilities

• Work on a 16-bed Med/Surg Telemetry unit within a Level 1 trauma, teaching hospital
• Patient population includes chest pain, observation, trauma, COPD exacerbation, heart failure, diabetes, and more
• RN to patient ratio ranges from 1:4 to 1:6
• Shifts are 12 hours, either 7A-7P or 7P-7A
• Weekend rotation requires 5-6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule (every other weekend)
• Float to all adult Med/Surg and telemetry units as needed
• No on-call or call back requirements
• Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, and Pyxis medication dispensing systems
• Holiday work required on either 12/24 or 12/25, and 12/31 or 1/1
• First-time travelers are accepted for this position
• Provide cardiac monitoring, titrate drips to HR as needed, and oversee patient education and discharge planning
• Support provided by CNAs, unit secretaries, charge nurses, hospitalist and intensivist coverage, and a central telemetry unit
• Phlebotomy mostly lab-collected; nurses may draw from CVLs
• Department offers 1 day of facility orientation and 2 days of departmental orientation
• Navy scrubs required for RNs

Requirements

• Active GA or compact RN license
• Minimum of 2 years recent Med/Surg Tele RN experience
• BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Associate degree or higher in nursing
• Ability to complete Basic Cardiac Rhythm (BCR) test during onboarding
• Skills in trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, glucommander, managing insulin and heparin drips, and cardiac monitoring are required
• Strong clinical assessment, time management, IV insertion/maintenance, and interdisciplinary care coordination abilities
