Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a night shift position requiring a CA RN license and advanced certifications.
Responsibilities
- Work in a hospital-based Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and ICU-CV Recovery unit
- 24 beds with the capacity to increase to 32 beds
- Patient population includes respiratory failure, sepsis, AMI, ARDS, GI bleeds, CABG, TAVR, Impella, vascular and neuro surgeries, and CVAs
- Nurse-to-patient ratios are typically 1:1 or 1:2
- Intensivist present from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. with on-call coverage after hours
- Uses Cerner EMR; previous Cerner experience is required
- Night shifts with 12-hour shift length; must work every other weekend or 4 weekend shifts in a 4-week period
- Required to float first to MedSurg/Tele units (4E, 4W, 5E, 5W, 6E)
- Unit utilizes Spacelabs telemetry monitoring with 24/7 monitor techs and tele monitors also present in patient rooms
- Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and provide advanced critical care to complex patient populations
- Charge nurse is available and rarely takes patients; a free resource nurse may assist as needed
- No nurse aides provided; nurses responsible for all telemetry strip readings
- Ventilators managed by Respiratory Therapy, which is available 24/7
- Pharmacy support available 24/7 with a unit-dedicated pharmacist during weekdays and partial weekends
- Unit orientation includes two shifts and orientation to both East and West towers to support floating requirements
- Scrub color is navy blue for scrubs, jackets, and permitted undershirts (navy, white, or black)
- Must be willing and able to work required shifts, including nights and weekends
- Passing facility clinical testing (e.g., dysrhythmia exam, sterile technique for Foley and central line changes) is required during orientation
Requirements
- Active CA RN license is required at the time of consideration
- Minimum of 2 years recent ICU experience
- Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
- Must pass a basic EKG interpretation test during orientation; additional EKG and STEMI/procedural sedation curriculum for critical care RNs
- Cerner EMR experience required
- Candidates with IABP, CRRT, or ICP experience and neuro background are a plus
- Must provide 2 recent references (1 supervisor within last 12 months, 1 peer or supervisor within last 3 years including dates of employment and rehire eligibility)
- No first-time travelers will be considered
- Copy of valid driver's license required for consideration
- Must not have been employed (full time, part time, or PRN) by CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity within the past year
