Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele assignment on night shifts, requiring a WV or compact RN license and strong cardiac skills.

Responsibilities

• Position is within the Medical Surgical/Telemetry unit of a short-term acute care hospital
• Assignments are night shifts of either 3x12 or 4x12 hours starting at 7:00 pm, including every other weekend
• Unit has 39 beds with a typical nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5, which may increase to 1:6 or 1:7 in rare instances
• Patient population is adult and geriatric with a mix of acute MI, unstable angina, CHF, arrhythmias, cardiac disorders, CVA, surgical, and observation patients
• Observation unit has a high patient turnover, with average stays of 36 hours or less
• Procedures on the unit include cardioversion, TEE, thoracentesis, bone marrow biopsy, chest tube insertion, central line insertion, and paracentesis; experience with these is preferred but not required
• Required to administer drips such as heparin, cardizem, amiodarone, dobutamine, dopamine, and nitroglycerin
• Charting is done using Cerner
• Floating within scope may be required
• Provide comprehensive care to a diverse cardiac and surgical patient population
• Will coordinate care for both inpatient and high-turnover observation patients
• Must wear royal blue or white scrubs as per unit dress code
• Parking is available at no cost for travelers
• First-time travelers are welcome if meeting experience requirements
• Orientation is held every other week on Thursday
• Holiday time off requests are limited to one of the three major holidays
• A 100-mile radius rule applies for eligibility; candidates within 75–99 miles may be considered with facility approval
• Candidates who have been perm employees with this hospital must wait two years before returning as travelers

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license; pending license accepted for consideration
• Minimum of 2 years RN experience, with at least 1 year in Med/Surg Tele specialty
• Required certifications: BLS/BCLS and ACLS
• Experience with post-cardiac cath, post-angiogram, and PTCA required
• Proficiency in administering required drips is mandatory
• Flu vaccination required during flu season unless medically exempt
