Job Description

American Traveler seeks an experienced RN for a Pediatric ICU (PICU) night shift position requiring EVD and trach/vent skills and a BSN.

Responsibilities

• Work in an acute care Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) with a 12-bed capacity
• Night shifts from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. with weekends as needed
• Nurse to patient ratio is 1:2
• Patients include those with trachs, vents, DKA, respiratory and surgical needs (trachs, g-tubes, shunts, hernia repairs, seizures), no cardiac cases
• RNs required to titrate drips including propofol, fentanyl, epinephrine and others
• Frequent floating to Peds, NICU, and mandatory sitter assignments
• Use of Epic for charting and Alaris pumps
• RNs read and interpret their own telemetry strips
• No nurse aides or patient care techs on the unit
• Team includes a charge RN on each shift, with a pediatrician in-house during the day and on-call at night
• Responsibilities include caring for critically ill pediatric patients, titrating drips, managing advanced equipment, and floating as needed
• Mandatory floating to related pediatric units and fulfilling patient sitter duties as assigned
• RNs may schedule up to five shifts in a block if it meets unit needs
• Orientation includes two 12-hour unit-specific shifts
• Must be willing to work at least one holiday per contract as required
• Any color scrubs are permitted
• First-time travelers will be considered for this position
• Permanent former employees must wait one year before returning as a traveler

Requirements

• Active ID or compact RN license at time of consideration
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required
• At least 2 years of recent PICU experience required
• Current BLS and PALS certifications required
• Experience with EVD and trach/vent care required
• Experience with Epic EMR and Alaris pumps preferred
• Ability to titrate critical drips
• Two professional references required: one supervisor reference from the past 12 months and one peer or supervisor reference from the past 3 years
• Copy of driver’s license required
• Must reside outside a 50-mile radius from the facility
