Job Description

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Med/Surg Tele position in a secure corrections oncology setting, requiring EPIC experience and an active OH or compact RN license.

Responsibilities

• Work within a locked corrections unit specializing in oncology and medical-surgical/telemetry care for the corrections population
• Patient population includes those with active oncology diagnoses, solid tumors, hematology, and non-oncology medical needs such as COPD, sepsis, and pneumonia
• Assignments may vary between Med/Surg and Progressive Care Unit (PCU) shifts
• Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:3 for PCU and 1:4-5 for Med/Surg
• Day (7:00-19:30) and night (19:00-7:30) shifts available, with three 12-hour shifts per week
• Weekend shifts are required per unit necessity
• Utilizes Epic for documentation and Pyxis for medication management
• Responsibilities include IV therapy, blood product administration, central and peripheral line care, PCA, cardiac drip management (no titration), and pre/post hemodialysis care
• Support available from pharmacy, respiratory, radiology, PT, provider services, and rapid response team
• Will float to various oncology Med/Surg units as needed
• Work environment is highly secure with correctional officer supervision and access controls
• First-time travelers are eligible to apply
• Locals are accepted at the same rate
• Former employees must have a 6-month break before returning as a traveler
• All candidates must promptly complete Ohio fingerprinting as a condition of employment
• All requested time off must be submitted and approved prior to contracting

Requirements

• Active OH or compact RN license required at time of consideration
• Graduation from an ACEN or CCNE accredited nursing program is required
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Experience with EPIC charting system is required
• Prior oncology experience preferred but not required
• Experience with telemetry and management of dysrhythmias required
• Must provide two professional references, including one from a managerial or leadership role
