Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a 32-bed Emergency Department night shift position, requiring WA or compact RN licensure and strong ED experience.

Responsibilities

• Position in a 32-bed Emergency Department
• Primary patient population includes adults with general ED complaints, geriatrics, occasional behavioral health, and rarely pediatrics or L&D cases
• Nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:4
• Supported by Patient Care Techs (ratio 1:6–12), 24/7 respiratory therapy, and 24/7 unit receptionist
• Utilizes Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, and Pyxis medication dispensing system
• Every other weekend required, with shifts primarily 12 hours overnight
• Holiday coverage is required as needed by the unit
• Orientation includes general hospital session plus 1–2 shifts on unit, with additional orientation time for special CAP positions
• Responsibilities include performing general ED procedures, telemetry monitoring, and responding to a diverse range of emergencies
• Telemetry monitoring is supported by HUC, but nurses retain responsibility
• Charge nurses are not assigned patient assignments
• Scrub color is open to any choice
• Lab draws may be performed by phlebotomy, nurses, or techs
• Free onsite parking is available
• Up to 7 days of requested time off allowed; additional days must be approved
• Initial onboarding includes both classroom and unit-specific training before independent shifts

Requirements

• Active WA or compact RN license required
• Minimum 2 years Emergency Department RN experience for traditional travelers; CAP positions require 4 years minimum
• Certification required: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, TNCC, and MOAB 1 & 2 (or CPI)
• Demonstrated competency in telemetry required, completion and passing of telemetry exam prior to start
• Strong teamwork, organization, time management, and communication skills necessary
• Experience with Epic EMR, Alaris IV Pumps, and Pyxis system preferred
• Will not accept first-time travelers for this position
