Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position requiring Level 3 or higher L&D experience and competency with high-acuity patients.

Responsibilities

• Work in a Labor & Delivery unit with 10 L&D beds, 4 OB ED (Triage beds), and 4 Antepartum rooms
• Care for a diverse patient population including high-risk pregnancies, low-intervention laboring patients, antepartum, OB triage/ED, postpartum, and infants
• Patient ratios: Antepartum 1:3, Inactive Labor 1:2, Active Labor 1:1, Postpartum/Couplet care 1:3 couplets
• Required to float to Postpartum/Couplet care as needed throughout the contract
• Perform specialized procedures including IV starts, cervical checks, phlebotomy, magnesium sulfate, blood administration, insulin, circulate C-sections, and C-section recovery
• Utilizes EPIC charting system; EPIC experience required or requires managerial approval for consideration
• 12-hour variable shifts with a requirement to work both day and night shifts during the contract
• Weekend rotation every other weekend; no call requirements
• Holiday coverage required as needed
• Support provided by a unit secretary, scrub tech, charge nurse, VAT team, respiratory therapy (24/7), OB physician team, and anesthesia/CRNA
• Orientation consists of 4 days with a preceptor: 3 in Labor & Delivery and 1 in Postpartum
• Scrub color is cobalt blue, provided by the hospital
• Manager approval is required for time off
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• No local travelers allowed; must reside outside of a 100-mile radius
• Free parking is available on site

Requirements

• Active SD or compact RN license
• Completion of an approved nursing education program
• Current BLS and NRP certifications required
• At least 2 years of recent Labor & Delivery experience, preferably in a Level 3 or higher unit
• Competency in care of high acuity labor patients, such as those with preeclampsia, preterm labor, and those under 35 weeks gestation
• Ability to care for couplets required
• Preferred experience with Level 2 nursery babies and certifications in ACLS, inpatient obstetrics, electronic fetal monitoring, or inpatient antepartum
