Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) and Med-Surg float position requiring strong PCU, telemetry, and Epic charting skills.

Responsibilities

• Float between all PCU and Med-Surg units within a hospital setting
• Patient population includes PCU and Med-Surg patients, including those requiring stepdown and telemetry care
• PCU average nurse-to-patient ratio is 5:1 and Med-Surg is 6:1, may flex up to 7:1
• Night shift (3x12 hours, 18:45-07:15); 4x12s may be requested
• Float assignments may change every 4 hours, up to 2-3 times per shift based on staffing needs
• Weekend commitment is either every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week block
• Must work one holiday per 13-week contract
• Epic EMR experience is required
• Responsibilities include managing ICU-level patient care in PCU and Med-Surg units, responding to emergencies, and administering specialized therapies and medications
• First-time travelers are accepted for this position
• All requests for time off and special scheduling must be submitted up front
• Facility may call off one shift every two weeks
• Holiday coverage required for one holiday per 13-week contract
• Acceptance of local candidates subject to radius rule
• References required at time of consideration

Requirements

• Active VA or compact RN license required; pending license accepted only for single-state RN from a non-compact state
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Experience required in IV therapy, phlebotomy, and blood product administration
• Competency in central line care, trach management, non-invasive airway support (CPAP/BiPAP, nasal cannula, chest tubes)
• Proficiency in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation, titrating cardiac drips, and responding to Rapid Response/Code situations
• Experience with PCA and heparin protocols, IV insulin administration, and managing endocrine/metabolic conditions
• Background in telemetry, stepdown level (PCU/DOU/IMC), and cardiovascular pre/post cardiac cath experience
• Epic charting experience required
